Progress!

I managed to make myself hobby and use my computer for useful things, like listening to music and Twitter.  I got both of my Retribution heavy warjack kits magnetized.  This was a royal pain in the ass.  I had magnetized my Menoth jacks previously and it was not to hard or time consuming.  The Retribution jacks have many, many small pieces.  Magnetizing those is touchy work to get the hole big enough for a magnet that will hold the weight of the parts yet not destroy or disfigure the part.  After an evening and a morning of work I got them both done and managed to get them and Ossyan primed.  By the time this goes to press, I hope to have started painting.  The Journeyman League starts next week and I’d like to have something painted since I am running the league.  I guess I should think about how I’m going to run my battle group as well.  So much to do and so little time.

Note: Yes, one of the jacks is missing a hand.  The hand was missing from the packaging.  Yet another quality control fail from Privateer Press.

Hobby Nemesis Pt. 1

Diablo-3-Reaper-of-Souls-Wallpaper-6

Just as I got home from down south, Blizzard released the Reaper of Souls expansion for Diablo III.  I had weaned myself off of Diablo III a few months before, but I had to check out the new addition.  That was a fateful day.  I have been driven to play that damned game at every turn.  I go into my hobby room with every intention of getting my hobby on, only to come face to face with my computer.  I try to tell myself no, but inevitably I decide that I’ll only play for an hour.  Being on holidays, one hour has turned into several on more than one occasion. My hobby has suffered.  My wife has been sick, so she hasn’t noticed my long absences from the light of day.

Luckily, I finished the game yesterday and I’m hoping this will ease the drive to play a bit and I can get back to some time sensitive hobby.  I do have a Journeyman League starting in less than a week.

Modeling on the Road

Now that my union meetings are over, I have been staying at my in-laws on Vancouver Island.  As expected, it's been warm here, but rainy and dreary as well.  What a perfect time to sneak in some hobby.  My mother-in-law was nice enough to let me occupy her craft room for the past few days, so I was able to get quite a bit of modeling done.

I got a unit of Halbardiers, a Mage Hunter Strike Force plus UA, and Ossyan cleaned up and built. I'm almost set for the first few weeks of the Journeyman League.  I have to mount them all on bases when I get home and magnetize my two heavy jacks I'll be using in Ossyan's battlegroup.

One unfortunate circumstance I encountered while building my models is the shocking lack of quality control at Privateer Press.  I was missing two parts from the Strike Force, a hand from one of my heavy jacks and two of the halbardiers had broken legs, and the pieces were not in the packaging.  This situation makes it pretty difficult to finish my models for the Journeyman League.  I'm pretty unhappy by this turn of events and will be communicating with Privateer Press about my displeasure.

Travel Kit

I'm heading out to Vancouver for a few days this weekend and then on to Vancouver Island for about a week after that.  Spring Break in our district begins this coming weekend, so I wanted to get some hobby in.  I have lots to paint and and build.  Our local group will be participating in a Journeyman League right after the break, so I need to get my stuff ready.

Unfortunately, my time in Vancouver will be spent at my union's Annual General Meeting.  The agenda states that we'll be in session from 9 am to 10 pm, so I'm not thinking I'll have a lot of time for anything but boredom until Tuesday.  The good news is that I'm heading to the in-laws on the island after that, so I'll think I can squeeze some hobby time in.  Considering that it rains all the time down there, I'll probably be spending lots of time inside.

We're driving down, so baggage limits aren't a concern.  I decided to put together a construction kit.  I've tried to take painting stuff down before and it just doesn't work.  So, I'm taking my tools (pin vice, hobby knife, green stuff, etc.).  I'm also taking my new Retribution models down to assemble for the Journeyman League.  I'm hoping I can sneak away for some hobby time.  Updates to come when I have time.

What a Woman

When I got home last night, there was a package sitting on my step.  My wife picked it up and turned to me and said "Happy birthday!".  Now, I think it's important to note that my birthday was exactly one month before the package arrived.  Needless to say, my present came as a surprise.

My surprise was increased when I opened it up.  My lovely wife had ordered some personalized movement templates fore X-Wing.  They are so cool!  Now all I need is an opportunity to play some X-Wing and show them off.

Resurrection

I've decided to revive the old blog.  I did some renovations to the name and the look and now I have to put something new on the inside.  I have been thinking about starting to blog again for the past couple of months.  The itch just kept persisting, so I figured I should scratch it.

There have been some changes since my last post which I discovered was almost two years ago!  I haven't played Warhammer in about a year and a half and I don't feel much of a compulsion to do so at this time.  I play almost exclusively Warmachine with a little bit of X-Wing thrown in for spice.  As I will explain later, this has more to do with the limited size of our gaming community than any lack of will to try other game systems.

I have some ideas for new posts, so stay tuned for what I'm sure will be some very compelling reading over the next few weeks.
